Holiday Tips for Entertaining & Gift Guide: Cocoanuts in the North End

Screen shot 2013-12-20 at 10.55.26 AM

Last week I attended Blog and Tweet Boston’s Holiday Tips and Tasting Event at Cocoanuts in the North End. Co-Owner Tara showed us how to put together some fun plates and displays for our holiday parties and talked to us about creative holiday entertaining ideas and tips for whether you have family visiting, plan to throw a bash, or just like to indulge in great food! (In June I attended their Summer Sweets & Chocolate Tasting Event, you can read about it here.) One idea Tara shared with us is to break up different flavors of chocolate bars and pair with chocolate covered almonds, toffee or North Light Baking Company macarons. Another idea was breaking toffee into pieces and scattering it on a plate with chocolate covered almonds (above). Cocoanuts… Read More »

Sun Cups – A gluten free and nut free alternative to peanut butter cups

Screen shot 2013-12-03 at 3.56.19 PM

Have you heard of Sun Cups? I was recently contacted by a representative for Sun Cups to give the product a try, and share the word about them. And I am so happy I said yes! So what are Sun Cups? In 2008, a man knocked on the door at Seth Ellis Chocolates with a jar of sunflower butter and a challenge: create a candy cup his peanut-allergic son could eat. The chocolatiers got to work, inspired by the idea of a peanut butter cup for everyone. A jar of sunflower butter, a handful of test batches and a day later, they had cracked the code. Sun Cups were born. When my Sun Cups arrived it was a test of will power to not sample each of them right away.… Read More »

Gluten Free Classes at The Boston Center for Adult Education

The Boston Center for Adult Education is the oldest nonprofit adult education center in New England. Founded in 1933, it quickly established itself as a cultural stomping ground where individuals could learn, discuss, create, and enjoy themselves. Now, almost 80 years later, the BCAE continues its role as Greater Boston’s leading provider of adult education, offering nearly 2,000 classes each year. The BCAE is working to increase their gluten free class offerings and are excited to have holiday specific classes for the winter term. They’ve added many new gluten free classes to its class offerings (see below), and I was lucky enough to attend the Gluten Free Holiday Sides class this past Sunday. The class was taught by Mary Greenfield, a classically trained personal chef and nutrition coach with experience… Read More »

Enjoy Aleia’s Gluten Free Stuffing at Your Thanksgiving Table

Screen Shot 2013-11-16 at 10.04.56 AM

Thanksgiving wouldn’t be Thanksgiving without some kind of stuffing at the table. I always loved traditional made-from-scratch stuffing growing up. When I began my gluten free diet in 2009 we started experimenting with different kinds of stuffing—wild rice with craisins and walnuts, brown rice with apples and pecans, paleo-style stuffing with sausage, vegetables and dried cranberries— but nothing ever satisfied my desire for “real stuffing”. We never ate ready-made stuffing so I never thought to find a gluten free variety. Until now that is. Located in Branford, Connecticut, Aleia’s Gluten Free Foods is a team of culinary trained chefs who handcraft and market a delicious line of all natural, CSA (Celiac Sprue Association) approved, and Kosher Certified, gluten free foods, which includes bread, croutons, stuffing mixes, bread crumbs, panko, and… Read More »
